Hi everyone! I’m Lindsay and I am SO glad you are here. I started this blog because of my passion for sharing simple, easy ways to establish a basically balanced life. I use the word “basically” because lets be honest, none of us are perfectly balanced all the time, not to mention perfectly balanced is the biggest oxymoron of all time am I right? Below is a little bit about me!
Throughout my life I have struggled with anxiety, however unfortunately I was just on the cusp of the generation that even recognized that children could have mental health concerns! My anxiety was not diagnosed until my teens, and was not seriously treated until my early 20’s. As I went through my life I felt this constant missing piece of balance. Things were either great, or a disaster. I was either super healthy or super unhealthy. I was either with friends all the time, or completely isolated. No matter what I did I couldn’t seem to establish this consistent happiness and content that seemed to be so easily established by people around me. As I learned more about myself, I started to recognize the connection between my mental and physical health as well as the environment around me and how all these factors were working together to make me feel completely out of balance! I became so interested in mental health and helping other people establish their best life that I decided to make it my career.
I completed an undergraduate degree, a post graduate bachelors degree and eventually went on to complete my Masters of Social Work at the University of Toronto with a specialization in health and mental health. I completed my clinical internships in various settings including a maximum security corrections institution, as well as the leading Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto Ontario. I have studied under some of the most established and groundbreaking psychiatrists in the area of Health and Mental health, and have focused a lot of my research and practice in Medical Psychiatry which looks specifically at physical health concerns that are the result of underlying mental health issues. I currently work as a clinical therapist and provide individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults. I love what I do, but the little advocate in me is continuously frustrated with how inaccessible some of the information is that can make a significant impact in someone’s life and thus…. Basically Balanced was born!
The goal of this blog is to show you the steps you can take to establish the balanced life you have wanted! This includes your environment, which is why I will talk a lot about home décor and design as well as the types of people and relationships you surround yourself with. This includes health and fitness, which is why you will see a lot of easy to understand information about developing healthy relationships with food and exercise on my blog. This includes fashion and beauty, because when done in a balanced way these can enhance the way we feel about ourselves and allow us to be creative and express our unique taste. And of course this includes mental health which is why there is an entire section of my blog dedicate to this topic which is where I hope to share information, resources on how to get the help you need, and tools for practicing the strategies that we know work to help us establish balance and overall happiness! We have to strip away all of the demands, stress, and expectations in our life and really get down to the basics to establish thriving balance. And remember… i’m in it with ya! I am not there yet, but for now I am ok with being Basically Balanced.
Thanks for reading, and I am so happy you’re here!
