Natural lifestyle and family photography
You asked for it, so here come the newborns! Newborn photography is truly one of my favourite things to do. The light and happy feeling that comes with a new baby pairs so well with my bright and airy style. I just love to capture new families bringing life into the world for the first time, or adding a new addition to their existing crew!
Meet Shay! The sweetest little thing with the sweetest little name.
My newborn sessions include some wrapped/lightly posed portraits of just baby, but are largely focused on lifestyle portraits and authentic interactions between family members. Sibling shots are some of my fav because there is something so endearing about watching a child become a big brother or sister! Toddler cooperation is my specialty and I have a pretty impressive success rate with winning them over (I hope I didn’t just jinx myself for the next one).
I always make sure to encourage each parent to have some one on one time with their new baby while I capture some of the interactions. These images are usually not directed other than a suggestion to pretend I am not there and to just engage with your little one. I find the images most people cherish are the ones that show a genuine feeling and connection between two people rather than a strongly set up shot.
This shoot was calm, seamless, and easy to capture because the love between these four was just so obvious! I love the pastel colours that were drawn throughout this shoot in their clothing and wraps – it is neutral yet bright and fun. This shoot is a great example of how to dress your family for a shoot that will bring in colour without causing clashing! I usually steer clients away from completely matching, and encourage complementary neutrals.
This gallery gives a good summary of what a newborn shoot with me looks like! I posted these photos in chronological order to show exactly how I work my way through a session. I have a pretty standard flow that has worked well for me and the families I work with – when toddlers are involved it is important to have a plan! I want this experience to be stress free and enjoyable – the more relaxed and authentic you are the more you will be in love with your gallery. So leave the planning and the organizing to me, and enjoy this special time with your family!
Welcome to the world baby Shay!
